About Us

"Nakashima Judo Club is a non-profit Judo club operated by a group of dedicated Shodan (Blackbelt) and higher belt volunteers. The club focuses on educating and coaching children to teens and adult athletes the ways of Judo. Judo was created in 1882 by Jigoro Kano. Judo "gentle way" is a modern Japanese martial art, a system of unarmed combat, and now primarily a sport. Judo has been an Olympic sport since 1964 and there are judo practitioners (Judoka) around the world. Judo's philosophy revolves around 2 primary principles: "Seiryoku-Zenyo" (精力善用 lit. maximum efficient use of energy) and "Jita-Kyoei" (自他共栄, lit. mutual welfare and benefit). Judo is not only a training of body and mind, but also a way of human kindness and foundation."
