The Northern Lights Judo Club cordially invites Judokas to participate in the Northern Lights Judo Tournament. This is a development tournament to encourage as many judokas as possible white belt and above to participate, which includes senior divisions as demonstration if possible.
Our regional judo competition of 2024/25 season is Saturday January 11, 2025 at the Elijah Smith Elementary School.

The Shiai (tournament) of the 2024/25 season is for *registered" Judo Yukon Members and invited guests.
Entry Fee: Free only for volunteers, coaches, referees.
Entry Fee: $10 competitors due the cost of awards and operated related expenses. Please note $10 entry fee allows competitors enter multiple categories such as the category of groundwork (ne waza is NW) or standing (tachi waza is TW which includes NW) plus category of judo knowledge.

Competition Scheduled to end 3:30PM.
Category NW (Ne Waza) = Ground Work only. Competitors start on their knees, and can not go higher than one knee off the mats. Good for first time competitors, or younger kids (under 8) who are not ready to be thrown with force.
Category TW (Tachi Waza) = Standing includes Ground Work. The competitors begin on their feet, grapple for grips and attempt to throw their opponent to the ground, possibly transitioning into ground work to win. Typically yellow belts and up, or for kids that are comfortable with breakfalls and have no fear of being thrown.
Category Judo Knowledge is competition 1 vs 1 to answer or demonstrate judo knowledge (see judo yukon website about judo knowledge).
Mixed refer to male & female in same category competing.
Category has divisions grouped by age, weight, belt rank, gender and skill level based on information provided to make it as fair as possible. NOTE: All registered athletes will be entered in this category automatically.
All ages / all levels welcome.
Divisions will be based on Judo Canada's tournament policies for U8, U10, U12, U14, U16, U18 ages.
Younger novice players will be sorted into 4-5 per division with max 15% variation of body weight.
Participants under 12 will weigh themselves in full judo Gi (top, pants and belt).
Rules & guidelines:
1) It is a shared (coaches, parents, young athletes) responsibility to ensure that their judoka are wearing the appropriate Gis
and undergarments (white t-shirt for girls) and slippers (zori) for the competition.
2) All competitors should have a White judogi.
3) Nails trimmed, hair must be tucked away and up so no hair is touching the collar.
4) Awards will be presented right away after the category is completed.
5) Every athlete will be registered for knowledge category.
6) Let your coach know that you arrived at the venue, and likewise advice coach when you leave the venue. If you have registered for the shiai and can not make it, call or text your coach so coach is not worried on your where about.
7) If coaches have any questions, please ask tournament director before the beginning of competition.
